The Matamata-Piako District covers 175,000 hectares in the central Waikato and is well known for dairy farming and the thoroughbred racing industry. The district has a population of approximately 36,000 people, with over 60% living in one of the three main towns - Matamata, Morrinsville and Te Aroha.Ā
Major attractions include Mount Te Aroha (952m high) and the stunning Kaimai-Mamaku Forest Park, that host a range of day walks or overnight tramps.
